Every registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a certain hosting provider. That way, you've got both your website and your e-mails handled by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the site for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you type a domain address in your browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of another company in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the site and the e-mails means you can have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you would like.
Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting
If you have a website hosting through us, you'll be able to view, set up and change any A or MX record for your domains. Assuming that a particular Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify particular records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will even permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain in any way. If you decide to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with simply a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one will have priority.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any one of your domain names or subdomains is very easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are maintained by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any issues if you wish to move your website or emails to a different company while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the instructions of the new provider.
